The traditional area of application for producing castings using the full-mold technique is the compressor tools segment of automotive engineering. Due to the highly complex geometries and low piece counts with narrow time frames, the models are manufactured entirely from Styrofoam. The Styrofoam model stays in the mold and vaporizes upon coming into contact with the molten iron.
